Polypectomy – Endoscopic Removal of Polyps

Polypectomy is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure used to remove abnormal tissue growths (polyps) from the gastrointestinal tract. It is commonly performed during colonoscopy or upper GI endoscopy to prevent future complications, including cancer.

Why is Polypectomy Needed?

Polypectomy is advised for patients with:

  • Colon or rectal polyps
  • Stomach or duodenal polyps
  • Polyps detected during screening colonoscopy
  • Family history of colorectal cancer
  • Unexplained GI bleeding

How is Polypectomy Performed?

The procedure is performed using an endoscope equipped with special tools such as snares or forceps. Polyps are carefully removed and may be sent for biopsy to rule out cancerous changes.

  • Fasting before procedure
  • Medication review by doctor

Recovery & Benefits
